The level was there but the radar was a little early for Starc after so long without competitive cricket. The left-arm spinner went for 10 runs in the opening series but he succeeded in the second game to come, where he looked like Australia’s most threatening bowler. That trend continued in the third where he kept running through the ball, including just five runs in the 19th over which helped him win.
He may not have had the reputation of his speed brothers, but it is a testament to Richardson’s skills that the selectors watched him when the series began, resisting temptations to lean on the pace of Leo Meredith or the name of Josh Hazlewood. The right-armer was economical and dangerous in the open, slotting less than the ball to run and hit twice but peaked in the chase for two, where he went for 9.5 and over. Somewhere in the middle for the last game when he took 1-31. Most notably in that match, Richardson was called at the death and delivered in the 20th over, where he took 1-4 to restrict England to just 6-145.

In each of the opening two matches, Zampa trained well until the death where it was expensive.
