Satta Movie – Director Raj N Sippy has the heart of a quiet holiday music, but also gives the masses enough reasons to rejoice too

Amid heavy melodrama, crime, gore and action in 1970s and 80s cinema, it is hard to believe that a filmmaker (Raj N Sippy) will have the conviction to team up with a mass hero like Amitabh Bachchan for Satte Pe Satta, a star vehicle and musical spirit . Inspired by the 1954 hit Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Satte Pe Satta is a classic example of Indianizing a Hollywood film, bringing it to the masses, while not losing its original spirit.

This is not the easiest film to adapt and requires a crafty filmmaker to understand the mood, keeping the good mood and humor without making it too sweet. Raj Sippy achieves this balance with ease and never lets go of his tenacity in the soul of the story. The story of Satte Pe Satta about seven siblings find the love of their lives (in the name of the day of the week) and a slight conflict (about an uncle planning to kill his niece to seize their property) to show the importance of humanity and compassion.

The cheerful vibe is the USP and Indu’s journey that transforms Ravi and his brothers while “civilizing” them makes for an enjoyable watch. Satte Pe Satta also slips effortlessly into his songs (RD Burman in his life form is a great bonus) and Sippy managed to film them more as a celebration of life. Amitabh and Hema Malini fall in love in the five-minute song Dilbar Mere and he later teaches the behavior of sisters in the song Jhuka Ke Sar Ko Bolo. In the second hour, Amitabh, together with Pyar Hamen Kis Mod Pe, befriends the brothers desperately in love.

Sippy smartly realized that the film needed a charismatic star who could add more flavor to the non-new sequences. Amitabh’s true skill, for example, comes through in an episode where he and Amjad Khan talk over drinks. The comedy timing between the duo is almost perfect and Amitabh, even though he utters the same dialogue ‘mujhe peene ki aadat nahi hai’ over and over, doesn’t make the lines redundant and proves how effective his dialogue delivery is. regular series.

An additional layer of Satte Pe Satta is the understated subplot about the transformative power of love. His transformation from a hard-line villain to a living man would be a tough sell and even funny in any other masala film but not this one. The scene where the Babu look-alike appears to kill his target but decides against the idea, moved by family unity, is enough to show how incomparable Sippy is in grasping the momentary truth in all seriousness.

This film is a perfect endorsement of Hindi cinema and reminds us that you don’t need to do revolutionary things to keep the audience glued to the screen.
