The total value of TV and digital rights for the next IPL cycle (2023-27) of the Indian subcontinent has more than doubled to INR 39,775 crore (approx. USD 5.10 billion). The figure came after the highest prices for TV and digital rights were confirmed on Monday, the second day of the IPL rights e-auction. I learned that the winning bid for Package A – TV rights for the Indian subcontinent – was INR 57.5 crores (approx. USD 7.36 million) per pair, while Package B – Digital rights for the Indian subcontinent – attracted the highest bid of INR. 50 crores (approx. US$ 6.41 million) per pair. In Indian Rupee terms, the value of an IPL game per match for the new right cycle almost doubled [a 98% jump] from INR (US$) 54.23 crores. 8.47 crore) Star India paid for the 2018-22 cycle. The jump in US dollars was 62.7% from 8.47 million to 13.78 million. In terms of value per match, a total of INR 107.5 million (approx. USD 13.78 million) made the IPL the highest in sports, next to the NFL and the English Premier League. Each NFL game is worth $35.07 million [according to the decade of rights signed into 2022, while the value of a premiership game under the 2022-25 rights deal is put at $11.34 million**.
Out of 74 matches per season for the next five years, the new television rights are worth INR 21,275 crore (approx. USD 2.72 billion), while the digital rights are worth INR 18,500 crore (approx. USD 2.37 billion). .). In terms of INR value, the sum is 2.43 or 143% more than the previous IPL rights worth INR 16,347.5 million (about $2.55 billion at the time). The rise in US dollars is exactly twofold. The IPL authorities are yet to reveal the names of the winners as the e-auction is still ongoing, with prices competing for the last two packages: Package C [digital rights in the Indian subcontinent for the special match package] and Package D [remaining. of the world]. As a result, the entire value of the IPL rights for the next cycle will change. The biggest factor behind this growth in IPL rights has been the exponential rise in digital rights. InR 18,500 crore the total amount paid was itself 13% higher than the total amount paid by Star India to acquire consolidated global rights [TV and digital] for the previous five-year cycle. The importance and rapid rise of the digital footprint in the Indian market can be gauged from the fact that in 2017, the highest digital rights was INR 3,900 million (about USD 610 million at the time) by Facebook. And in the e-auction held that started on Sunday, the rules were that the bids for Package A and B should be submitted together, and the winner from Package A would be determined first. This winner also had the opportunity to participate.
