The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League will be played in the traditional format, with teams competing in designated stadiums across India. On March 29, 2022, BCCI published an invitation to bid for the IPL Media Rights 2023-2027. A 5-year media rights contract for IPL 2023-2027 covering both digital and TV rights is worth INR 48,390 crores. BCCI earns around INR 118 crore per match from 410 matches played during this period. Disney Star secured the Indian subcontinent TV rights to the IPL for INR 23,575 crores (INR 57.5 crore per game) and Viacom18 acquired the digital rights for the winning bid of INR 23,578 crores. Ten teams will participate in last year’s IPL 2023. This season will be played with a total of 74 games including the playoffs. The 10 teams are divided into two groups to play a total of 14 matches. Group A features Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, while Group B features Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

IPL 2023 includes 10 teams, each year some of the captains will remain the same while others may change due to unforeseen events. The unchanged captains were MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson, KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis.
But this season also has a new captain. After his car accident Rishabh Pant was unable to play in IPL 2023. In his absence, David Warner will lead the Delhi Capitals.
