23rd of December at 14:30 in Kochi. It is the 16th IPL auction, the last one was held as a grand auction in February this year. The auction will be telecast on the Star Sports network and streamed online via Jio Cinema in India.

The final auction slots will have 405 players out of the original 991 registered players, with a maximum of 87 slots filled by 10 franchises. 30 of them will be foreign players. There will be a total of 273 Indian players, and 132 foreign players, including 4 countries from Together. 119 players are covered and 286 are uncapped.

The oldest player in the auction is T20 veteran Amit Mishra. Mishra, 40, is the only bowler to hold three IPL caps for three different teams – Delhi Daredevils (2008), Deccan Chargers (2011) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2013).
That would be Hugh Edmeades. He replaced Richard Madley in 2018 and has been hosting the IPL auction ever since.

Sam Curran, Ben Stokes and Cameron Green, all of whom could be the most expensive buys in the 2023 IPL auction, have been named in the second group to be auctioned on December 23. The auction will start at 14:30. IST in Kochi with a batting line-up that includes Indian opener Mayank Agarwal and the English duo of Joe Root and Harry Brook. In the final auction, 405 players were halved from the original 991 registered, with a maximum of 87 slots available. Filled by 10 franchises. Among them, 30 people will play abroad. On Tuesday, the IPL announced the final auction and revealed that 36 new names have been added as requested by the franchises. A total of 273 Indian players, and 132 internationals – including four affiliated countries – were part of the final list. There are 119 players with 286 complete players. As per the standard, the auction will start with the top players, the IPL divides them into different groups based on expertise. In an email to franchisees on Tuesday, the IPL outlined the order as follows: batters, allrounders, wicketkeeper-batters, fast bowlers and spinners. The same order will be followed for random players.
Most of the players that franchises believe can lead to a playoff battle are grouped into the first three groups. The first batch of batsmen included New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, along with Agarwal and Brook. Williamson was the first player to be signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022 and was paid INR 14 crore, besides being named captain. But a poor season with the bat coupled with an eighth-place finish forced Sunrisers to revamp their squad, which included the release of Williamson. The New Zealand batsman, who has listed his base price at INR 2 million, could also attract interest based on his leadership experience as well as his ability to play effective innings in high-pressure situations.
Agarwal’s story is similar. He was, also, the first player to be capped and captained by the Punjab Kings. But the skipper took a heavy toll on Agarwal’s batting as the Kings finished in mid-table. With more than one franchise looking for an Indian opener, Agarwal, who has listed his base value at INR 1 crore, will be optimistic about getting a decent offer. Another player to be sure of is Brook, for whom he has entered the IPL auction. For the first time, his base price was listed at INR 1.5 million. A powerful athlete, Brook proved he can handle the following conditions when he won the Player of the Year award for the seven-match T20I series in Pakistan ahead of the T20 World Cup. He recently made his mark in the first two matches in Pakistan, where he scored two centuries, which later helped him win the man of the match award in the Multan Test.
