Chennai Super Kings played a pretty good 11 even before the IPL 2023 auction. However, the addition of Ben Stokes makes things very interesting. Undoubtedly, Ben Stokes will feature in the 11. But the question is whose place he will take.
Ben Stokes has three chances to be drafted into the national team. One is to play as an opener instead of Devon Conway. That way Rayudu and Dube can play 11 and Pretorius can play like death over the bowler. The second is that Stokes will replace Pretorius and Conway, Dube and Rayudu will be in the Play 11.
In all likelihood, however, Stokes will replace Pretorius and play at No.5. Either Rayudu or Dube will miss out in this scenario and it looks like the latter will miss out. This allows CSK to play Simarjeet as the third pacer in the team. Also, the hitting sequence stays pretty good this way unlike the previous two options.

MS Dhoni and CSK retain a formidable core for IPL 2023, eyeing a Chennai Super Kings squad that will remain strong.
The 2022 T20 World Cup is well underway with India beating arch-rivals Pakistan with King Birat Kohli’s stunning finish. Meanwhile, 10 franchises are doing their homework to submit their player list ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. It is understood that November 15 has been set as the deadline for all 10 teams to submit their reserve list for IPL 2023.
The first team we are analyzing, Chennai Super Kings, performed poorly in IPL 2022. The four-time IPL champions experienced a management shake-up midway through the season when the reins again shifted from Ravindra Jadeja to MS Dhoni. Hence, CSK remained in 9th place with only 4 wins in 14 matches.

Chennai Super Kings retain their core batsman for IPL 2023. This includes openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway along with captain MS Dhoni. Apart from these three, CSK retain N Jagadeesan and C Hari Nishanth, who they have trusted for several seasons now.
Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa are among the players to miss out on in this lineup. Uthappa had already retired but Ambati Rayudu also retired before getting it back. Considering Rayudu’s age, which is already 38, CSK can find a new player in the auction.
All-rounders are CSK’s forte and they are likely to retain all-rounders in IPL 2023. So expect CSK to retain Indian all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube and Bhagat Varma. Among the overseas all-rounders, CSK retains players like Dwayne Pretor, Dwayne Bravo, Meen Ali and Mitchell Santner.
